Selling their products, automakers lure buyers not only by the price, but also by the amount of autonomous movement of the electric car. But the declared stock is one thing, and the real one is quite another.
The German magazine Auto Bild decided to check how many kilometers of the track really is enough charge for the batteries of popular electric cars on the European market. To do this, the experts went to the Autobahn and tested at a constant cruising speed of 130 km / h. For the realities of Germany, such a speed is perhaps optimal. It is not too slow, but also not prohibitively fast. You can move at this speed almost always. Even in very mountainous terrain with an abundance of turns (in such places there is often a speed limit – the same 130 km / h).
Starting at a speed of 80 km / h, the energy consumption curve of any electric car goes up sharply. This is mainly due to air resistance. The faster a car rushes along the Autobahn, the more energy it has to spend on overcoming an invisible wall. How many popular models can drive at 130 km / h?

The sporty version of the ID.4 model – the GTX – has a capacity of 299 hp. It accelerates up to 180 km/h. You can buy such a car for 48,900 euros. The real power reserve when driving on the Autobahn is 332 km.
Porsche Taycan 4S
It would seem that Porsche should be the ideal car for driving on highways. The model has an excellent top speed of 250 km / h and is equipped with an 83.7 kWh battery. The declared cruising range is 365 km, the real one is 352 (at a speed of 130 km / h). You can buy such a car for 113,058 euros.
Audi RS e-tron GT
Audi RS e-tron GT, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. It is more powerful, heavier and more expensive than a Porsche. Despite the same battery, this model can cover 367 km, but it also costs 140,000 euros.
Ford Mach-E GT
The Ford Mach-E GT combines several positive features: four-wheel drive, large battery and high power. The “American” drives the same 367 km on one charge, but has the best balance of price and quality – you can buy a model for only 63,700 euros.
BMW iX xDrive 50
The 2.5 tonne model exchanges the first hundred in just 4.6 seconds. “Bavarian” has a boot capacity of 535 liters. It is equipped with a huge traction battery of 105.2 kWh. A car costs from 100,000 euros. The power reserve when driving on the Autobahn is 434 km.
Mercedes EQS 580 4Matic
German experts recognized the Mercedes EQS 580 4Matic model as the leader of the rating. It is capable of driving 444 km without recharging at a cruising speed of 130 km/h. At a cost of 135,529 euros, the vehicle is equipped with a 108 kWh battery. The power of the electric car is 523 hp.
Where are the Tesla products? It did not make it into the standings at all. The Germans completely ignored Elon Musk’s creations.
